DICKSON,BARBARA - FULL CIRCLE CD

Description

DESCRIPTION
In 2004 Barbara released 'Full Circle,' her first full studio album for nine years. Produced by Troy Donockley, the album marked a return to her folk roots with an eclectic selection of songs including traditional and classical material and more contemporary songs such as The Everly Brothers' 'Living Too Close to the Ground' and 'Faithless Love', the JD Souther song made famous by Linda Ronstadt. "I'm very proud of this album," Barbara says. "It's a big mixture of different sorts of songs. There's a lot of folk music on it and there are two classical songs and two songs from the 20th century, so it's a great big mixture of stuff. It's produced by Troy Donockley who does classical music of his own which he composes, but with Celtic instruments, with a Celtic flavour, so it's really fantastically interesting for me. Really quite a departure." "It is no exaggeration to describe Dickson as a great singer. She stood out a mile among the Scottish folk singers of her generation, and she has consistently shown her class when performing for a wider public. From the first notes of Garton Mother's Lullaby to the last strains of Eriskay Love Song, 'Full Circle' maintains those fine standards. Dickson takes each ballad in her stride, ably produced by Troy Donockley, who also contributes moody uillean pipes. Without dismissing the work she has done in the other three decades of her career, this is Dickson at her most engaging." (The Daily Telegraph)
